Distribution
It grows throughout the eastern part of the United States.

The tree
Ash is of the olive tree family.

The timber
American ash is a ring porous hardwood and is fairly hard, heavy, and very tough. It features a light coloured, nearly white sapwood. Available in 25mm, 38mm, 50mm and 75 mm.

Strength
Excellent bending and finishing qualities.

Working qualities
Ash is excellent for machining and offers good resistance to splitting in nailing and excellent resistance to splitting in screwing, while it is good for gluing.

Uses
It can be used for furniture, panelling, flooring, fixtures, woodwork, bending stock, handles and sporting goods.
